Young Doctors in Love – 10:35

With its upbeat 80s synths and grooving bass line, “10:35” certainly gets the listener’s foot tapping. “10:35” really highlights the importance of a catchy riff. The more you hear the opening organ sounds and “hey hey hey” vocals the more they are hard to get out of your head. In this regard, Young Doctors in Love succeed in catching the listener’s attention and keeping it.  The video rightfully highlights the romantic vibes of both the lyrics in the song and the band’s name itself, showcasing a montage of different black and white films and their respective love stories. Perfect for starting your morning off right, “10:35” has all the energy it needs to bring a smile to your face.

Mu – To Be Young

When the electronic drums kick in halfway through the song “To Be Young” really shows off the energy this type of song can have. Mu builds it up slowly, weaving melodies together paired with psychedelic shots of the two person dream pop group, creating a song that seems to wash over you back and forth as if in a dream. Calming and creative, Mu shows off how simply harmonies are just what you need to leave a lasting impression. Check out our recent review of their new EP here

Inlet Sound – Blizzard Baby

Right away the music video for “Blizzard Baby” the latest single from the five-piece band hailing from Toronto shows off the self-described “manic energy” the band has when performing it. “Blizzard Baby” is upbeat from the get go. As a result, it is incredibly easy to imagine the groups of fans dancing along at their shows. Every synth, guitar line and classic “woo-hoo” feels like it’s in the right place, and only rewards the listener more each time the chorus comes shooting back into the song. Building a fire in your heart and head, “Blizzard Baby” is a track you just can’t let yourself miss out on.

Korean Drama – Jimmy

Besides their hilarious single artwork and concept behind the song in the first place, JimmyToronto punk band Korean Drama have created a fairly simple, but effective punk tune. To elaborate, the song is about a “world where Drake takes revenge on a world who won’t stop confusing him with his character from Degrassi: The Next Generation” which has to be one of the single funniest concepts for a song I have seen in quite some time. One of the tags for the song is “wheelchair”, which only furthers the hilarity. Sitting at only one minute the track may not have much depth, but has certainly left an impression on this listener, as I have played it easily over 10 times. I wish I was there to see the idea for this song form in their heads.
